Example NFP Charts for the Marquette Method

The Marquette Method is a method of Natural Family Planning that relies primarily on using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor to determine when you’re fertile. The monitor prompts you for a daily urine test, and you enter the results in a chart to track your fertility over time – it really is that easy! You can use this information to decide when to have sex to achieve or avoid pregnancy. An example chart can help you visualize what this looks like. If you’re new to the Marquette Method, seeing an example chart might help you understand what the method entails to decide if it’s something you want to try. While you might see slight variations in the way charts look with different instructors, most charts will look pretty similar to our examples.

This example chart shows you what it looks like to track your fertility using the Marquette Method. Here are some things you’ll notice:

  • You have to record the monitor reading and any bleeding daily.
  • You might record additional observations (like an OPK test) but that’s not always required.
  • Once the monitor detects a peak, it will always report subsequent fertility levels as PPHLL, and those days all count as part of the fertile window.
  • This couple was using NFP to avoid pregnancy, so you can see that they abstain from intimacy during the fertile window.

A variation of the Marquette Method can be used while your cycles return to normal while you’re breastfeeding. A chart like this one is used for those first six cycles. Here are some things to notice:

  • The cycles tend to get shorter as your body returns to normal. The Marquette Method breastfeeding protocols account for that.
  • Just like the normal Marquette Method, you record a monitor reading (and any bleeding) daily.
  • In this example, the couple is trying to avoid pregnancy, so they abstain from intimacy during the fertile window.

Setup Your Own Chart

If you decide you like our charts and want to use them yourself, you should start with a blank chart rather than copying the demo. Here’s a link for the Marquette Method Chart Template and the First 6 Breastfeeding Cycles Chart Template.
